Mann Middle School, one of the oldest middle schools in Colorado Springs, has a rich history in the band department.

The middle school band has received superior ratings and also won a gold medal at the Elitch Gardens music festival, which is the highest medal possible.

“Students get to do two important things…. go to perform in front of a judge… then they get to do the most fun thing, the rides and games,” band director, Mrs. Kincaid explained.

Band students also get an opportunity to be in honor band.

There are three types of honor band in the Colorado Springs Student District 11 – D11 Middle School Honor Band, the Pikes Peak D11 Honor Band, and the D11 Honor Jazz Band.

The CS D11 MS Honor Band and the D11 Honor Jazz Band are live performances, but the PP D11 Honor Band is a recorded audition that students send to the organization.

“All students get the opportunity to audition,” Mrs. Kincaid said.
